On Dec. 9, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) held “2015 Data Protection Industry Day” at FKI (Federation of Korean Industries) Tower in Yeouido (Seoul) with nearly 250 industry players in attendance, including CEOs of data security companies and officials from relevant institutions.
Choi Yang-hee, Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning, said in his congratulatory speech: “The Korean data protection industry is valued at a mere 1.7 trillion won. Our ministry will provide support to help the domestic data protection industry grow more than 10-fold from now on.”
The “2015 Data Protection Industry Day” event featured an awards ceremony to commend great work and contribution by handing out the K-ICT Data Protection Grand Prize, the K-ICT Data Protection Special Award and the K-ICT Data Protection Outstanding Contribution Awards.
Korea South-East Power Co. took home the K-ICT Data Protection Grand Prize while the city of Seogwipo and SK Energy won the K-ICT Data Protection Excellence Awards.
SK Infosec, Korea Telecom Internet Solution (KTIS) and Korea Trade Network (KTNET) were among the nine winners of the K-ICT Data Protection Special Awards.
The K-ICT Data Protection Outstanding Contribution Awards were given to three contributors, including Jung Yeon-tae, head of Head of the SNS Industry Development Institute. Director Kang Shin at KOSCOM was awarded with 2015 CISO (chief information security officer) Award for running an integrated anti-phishing call center.
Jung Yeon-tae, head of the SNS Industry Development Institute, has been taking the lead in data protection: Jung held a forum for the enactment of a data protection industry promotion law in 2013 and organized a committee for the enactment of a data protection industry promotion law, comprised of officials from the MSIP, financial institutions, security companies and the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA).
