KT&G to Send College Student Volunteer Team to Cambodia

KT&G, South Korea’s top tobacco maker, said on Jan. 15 that it would dispatch a team of 39 undergraduate volunteers to Cambodia on an international volunteering mission that is scheduled to end on Jan. 22. The team is comprised of members of Sangsang Volunteer (a college student volunteer team run by KT&G) and volunteers affiliated with the KT&G Welfare Foundation.

The team will be sent to Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia to assist NGOs in building and repairing schools and offering learning support activity and health and hygiene education.

In addition, in order to offer Cambodian students various cultural experiences, the team has been preparing “talent donation” on its own, take advantage of each volunteer’s talent.

Since 2005 KT&G has dispatched a total of 900 undergraduate volunteers and employee volunteers to Cambodia on 33 separate missions. The company has also been committed to building educational facilities in Cambodia, such as floating kindergartens and libraries.

Furthermore, KT&G has been engaged in medical support activities in Uzbekistan, Mongol, etc. In Indonesia, the company has carried out a project called ‘Sangsang Village’ to improved living conditions in slum areas. To top it off, KT&G has become the first Korean company to build a Korean language education center in Jakarta, capital city of Indonesia.
