Korea's telecom carrier KT's Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu showcased the integration of Internet of Things into Coway's air cleaner during a speech with the title "Find lighthouse in the foggy economy" on Thursday.

He said, "This air cleaner receives air information of the region from the Meteorological Administration," adding, "Providing the best air purifying solution analyzing data, the air cleaner company is turning into a health care solution firm."

He also introduced global efforts to take the leaderships in the new industrial revolution including Germany's "Industry 4.0," China's "China Manufacturing 2025," Japan's "Strategy to rebuild the nation" and America's "Industrial Internet consortium."

During the Davos Forum held in January, the chairman also talked about new technological advance including IoT, artificial intelligence and nano technology, 3D printer and big data.

Hwang said, "In other countries, the fourth Industrial Revolution still remains as simply the combination of ICT and manufacturing but in Korea more advanced integration of ICT is necessary," adding, "To the ICT infrastructure, other industries such as energy, finance and health care besides manufacturing should be converged."

He found the nation's potential in the fourth industrial revolution from ICT infrastructure. The chief said, "Korea can be the leader in the fourth industrial revolution if we can apply giga Internet 10 times faster than the existing ones, LTE coverage ability and integration ability."

He then picked energy and bio technologies as what the company is focused on, saying, "After we applied KT-MEG solution to the energy consumption of a hospital, we could save 73 percent of energy usage. We have so far spent 3 billion won for annual energy cost but now we are paying only 700 million won."

He also added, "Companies should map out intelligent network infrastructure and show more interest in the integration of ICT," adding, "It should grow into a company, which can make new value and industry by integrating energy finance, healthcare and other industries."
