Samsung Electronics has been accelerating to develop the self-driving vehicle by attracting researchers in the autonomous driving vehicle sector.
Just like Google, Samsung Electronics plans to develop its own self-driving technologies based on artificial intelligence and supply them, together with electronic equipment, to global car makers.
The self-driving driving technologies that Samsung mainly focus into are handle tasks including computer vision like 3D mapping, visual recognition, biosignal analysis, optical film for display, and deep learning (AI learning) so that the technologies can even drive unmanned car without any network beacon or GPS sensor.
It is estimated that self-driving cars are expected to be commercialized in around 2020 and establish a more than $1-trillion market by 2035.
According to some reports, however, Samsung would need more employees and researchers as well as production facilities in order to roll out driverless cars.
Internet giant Google, however, has long been testing its self-driving cars, which have driving around in several states in the U.S. so far.
Apple, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volvo are among the manufacturers that have been developing self-driving cars.
