E-Mart, South Korea's biggest discount store chain, is setting its sights on the Vietnamese market. E-Mart is scheduled to sign an MoU with Ho Chi Minh City on September 9 to make an investment in the capital of the country.
E-Mart will invest a total of $200 million in large retailers, supermarkets and various other types of commercials facilities in Ho Chi Minh City by 2020.
E-Mart also looks to expand investment in social and volunteer activities so as to contribute to the development of the local community. In July, E-Mart opened a 160-square-meter toy library for children in the city and donated 10,000 motorcycle helmets for children.
E-Mart said it plans to continuously increase its imports from Vietnam by including food products such as fruits and fisheries. E-Mart has thus far mainly imported non-food products worth $200 million, such as clothes and toys.
In December last year, E-Mart opened its first Vietnamese branch in the Go Vap district of Ho Chi Minh City.
