On February 16, American Department of Treasury reported Japan boosted its holdings of U.S. Treasuries by US$11.5 billion in December.
According to the Department of Treasury, foreign creditors sold the most amount of American debt, US$53 billion in December 2009, surpassing the previous record drop of 44.5 billion dollars in April 2009.
China and Japan are the largest holder of U.S. Treasury securities. Japan bought US$11.5 billion last December; this brings the total to USD 768.8 billion. China sold US$34.2 billion; to bring its total to US$755.4 billion, becoming no. 2 creditor.
Also, the U.K. bought US$24.9 billion of American debt during the same month, total US$302.5 billion. Brazil bought US$3.5 billion, total US$160.6 billion. Russia sold USD 9.6 billion, total US$118.5 billion.
