Pyongyang, February 28, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) demanded Japan to "liquidate its crimes against humanity" during their colonial rule over Korea from 1910 to 1945.
When Japan ruled the Korean Peninsula, they took Korean women to their military camps for their soldiers to rape them. There is evidence and survivors to support this, but Japan has denied this horrible crime. Also there were many atrocities against the Korean people. Japan, however, has tried to whitewash their past crimes and even glamorized their invasion. DPRK stressed if Japan really wants to make friendly relations in East Asia, it should clean up its past faults as soon as possible.
The statement was made just before the day, Samiljeol, Independence Movement day (March 1). The Korean people launched a movement to revolt against the Japanese colonial rule on March 1, 1919.
