Liu Chuanzhi, the Chairman of Lenovo, revealed at the Chinese National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference that he will launch Lenovo's new product Lephone in April. "Le" means joy, pleasure, or enjoyment in Chinese. The Lephone is a combination of a cellular phone and computer. During an interview with First Financial Daily, he said, "Lephone will be unveiled on April 19 and this product has a lot of meaning to Chinese companies."
World's No. 4 computer maker Lenovo has now entered the smartphone market with its touch-screen mobile device that runs on Google Inc.'s Android technology. This phone is one of the best results by Lenovo for developing wireless Internet technology. Lenovo is a beginner in the wireless Internet sector; it has no infrastructure like Apple has. Thus, Lenovo predicted that the chance to beat Apple's iPhone might be only five percent. Nevertheless, LePhone has made breakthroughs in its operating system and central processing unit (CPU), which contributes to the further development of the Chinese phone market. Liu Chuanzhi thinks the iPhone is too expensive, which is not good for the Chinese market. So he plans to cut down the price of the phone within two years to 1000 Yuan (US$146).
