Kim Dong-soo was appointed as the new Vice Minister of Information and Communication on August 31, 2007.

Vice Minister Kim has served in the MIC since 1979 and has contributed a lot to national IT development. Some of his accomplishments include his support for KT's privatization, cellular mobile telephones, and WiBro introduction.

On August 29-31, the ITU-R WP8F Conference will be held at the Seoul Grand Hyatt Hotel to discuss the standardization of WiBro Mobile WiMAX's IMT-2000. Samsung Electronics will start its first commercial service of WiBro, a next-generation mobile communication service, in 6 major cities in the USA including New York, Washington, and Baltimore, starting April of next year.

As WiBro,which was first commercialized in Korea, makes its debut in the USA, Korea can use that in the process of standardizing the next-generation mobile technology.

S-LCD Corporation, a joint venture between Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Sony Corporation, announced on August 28, 2007 the first shipment of LCD panels produced from its 8th Generation Line. S-LCD's 8th Generation Line is capable of processing the world's largest motherglass substrates, measuring 2,200mm by 2,500mm.
