NTT DoCoMo's launched the FOMA SH704i on July 27 which is based on Symbian OS and started shipping in Japan the same day.

Symbian OS is the global market-leading open mobile operating system for smart phones.

The FOMA SH704i, a One-segment terrestrial digital broadcasting handset with metallic body is manufactured by Symbian customer Sharp Corporation and includes the MOAP platform.

Samsung has developed the world's first LCD panel using the next-generation video interface -- DisplayPort. Sanctioned by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), DisplayPort will serve as a replacement for DVI, LVDS and eventually VGA. By using a transmission speed more than double that of today's interfaces, Samsung's new LCD only requires a single DisplayPort interface, instead of the two Digital Visual Interface (DVI) ports now used. For Samsung's new 30-inch LCD, the DisplayPort interface transmits graphics data at a total data rate of 10.8Gbps.

The country's biggest telecom service provider KT announced on Thursday that it is set to unveil two new kinds of ultra mobile PCs (UMPCs) in cooperation with local electronics makers. These new UMPC models will include full WiBro support. WiBro refers to wireless broadband, which allows people on the road to use high-speed Internet at speeds of the present fixed-line broadband.

Hynix is ready to enter into non-memory semiconductor business again.

Kim Jong-gab, president of Hynix Semiconductor, had a press conference at Joseon Hotel on July 25 to announce the company's plan.

Under the plan, Hynix will reach US$18 billion in sales by 2010 and rank third while increasing the market share of DRAM, NAND flash and PRAM to 30% respectively by 2012 with $25 billion in sales. If the mid- to long-term plan is put in place as scheduled, Hynix will become one of top semiconductor companies by 2017.

A rental service is starting to provide WiBro subscribers with an opportunity to use the latest laptop computers.

KT along with KT Capital announced that they would start a KT WiBro laptop rental service through which corporate WiBro customers can use brand new laptops at low cost from July 9.

This service is designed to reduce the burdens of corporations purchasing laptops while promoting the use of WiBro for business purposes. With this marketing strategy, KT will highlight the point that WiBro is the optimal solution for the mobile office.
