Hanwha Systems will activate the network with leading AI graduate schools and AI scientists and seek ways to upgrade its technology.
Hanwha Systems announced on Aug. 28 that it will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KAIST's AI graduate school for research cooperation and human resources development in the AI field, development of joint AI research tasks, and findings of talented people.
The two sides plan to discover research tasks related to AI field and natural language processing and carry out 'HAiQV' platform and solution verification (PoC) project, which is an AI brand of Hanwha System.
Hanwha Systems plans to establish a mutual cooperation system based on its support for KAIST's findings of joint tasks in the AI field, preferential treatment to KAIST AI graduate school students in employing interns and staff, and provision and sharing of Hanwha Systems’ AI platforms research activities.
KAIST Graduate School of AI opened its first AI degree course in Korea in 2019. As of 2018, it ranked 11th in the world and 2nd in Asia in the number of papers submitted to global AI-related academic societies such as the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) and the NeurIPS (Neural Information Processing Systems).
Kim Yeon-cheol, CEO of Hanwha Systems, said, "Through this industry-academic cooperation, we want to recruit talented AI personnel and form a network of experts to enhance our future growth engines and technology capabilities," adding, "The two organizations with innovative capabilities will work together to advance practical AI research and focus on securing related technology leadership."
"We expect to add strength to our school's AI research program, which will lead the nation's competitiveness, and provide various hands-on education opportunities through cooperation with Hanwha Systems," said Jeong Song, dean of KAIST's AI Graduate School.
