Merck handover Global CR fund to Loving Neighbors Korea

Dr. WooKyu Kim emphasize corporate social responsibility as his first official activity as New Managing Director of Merck Korea

Fund will be used, among other things, for a Korean language tutor, a computer room and a multimedia facility

Merck today announced that global CR fund € 25,000 forwarded to Loving neighbors Ansan Multi-cultural Children Care Center by Dr. WooKyu Kim, new managing director of Merck Korea.

Merck Performance Materials business sector launched € 100,000 Community Involvement Initiative which was directly proposed by employees as part of the integration program following the acquisitions of Versum Materials and Intermolecular to support four charitable projects with € 25,000 each to strengthen technology infrastructures, promote digital education and support communities in various ways.

“Merck care about people and the communities in which we operate as corporate responsibility for our products, the environment and the people around us. Under this principal,  the goal and purpose of Loving Neighbors exactly fit with company Corporate Responsibility activities already in place, their impact on society, their contributions to advancing digital living, as well as the degree to which employees have already been involved in various initiatives in the areas of global health, environmental sustainability and education," said Dr. Kim as his first official event. "We hope that this support will give multicultural children an opportunity to realize their dreams by preparing for their future through various digital-based education.”

“We really appreciate Performance Materials’ kind interest toward Loving Neighbors. This donation from Merck employees will give our underprivileged and multi-cultural children in the region a new challenge and a great deal of courage," said Youngji Kim, director of Loving Neighbors. "With this fund we are now able to continue providing Korean lessons to support a better integration into Korean society, set up a multimedia facility and provide a stable and healthy environment for them.”

A multicultural childcare center in Ansan providing a stable environment for disadvantaged and multicultural students, helping them to enter a digital life through multimedia-based computer education. 26 Performance Materials employees already volunteer each quarter. The fund will be used, among other things, for a Korean language tutor, a computer room and a multimedia facility.
