CJ Vice Chairman Lee Mi-kyung has been selected as the international producer of the year by the U.S. entertainment magazine The Hollywood Reporter (THR).
In a four-page special article published in the magazine on Oct. 7, THR introduced Vice Chairman Lee's move to help achieve the Academy's four-time winner with the movie, "Parasite."
"Vice-chairman Lee is leading the entertainment industry as a great producer," the media reported. "She is actively responding to the changing pop culture industry after the COVID-19 by converting 'KCON' (Korean Wave Festival), which was held offline around the world every year, to online broadcasting."
In addition to video interviews with Lee, the magazine also mentioned industry leaders such as DreamWorks co-founder David Geffen and Skydance Media founder David.
"When I first met Vice Chairman Lee, she wasn't involved in the entertainment industry at all, but now she's a big shot," David Geffen said. "She've had an eye for potential since the investment in DreamWorks, and that's what CJ's entertainment business is doing now."
Starting with the $300 million investment in DreamWorks in the 1990s, Vice Chairman Lee created CJ ENM, an affiliate of CJ Group, and led the entire pop culture industry, including movies, broadcasting, musicals, and K-pop performances.
Last month, Lee was elected vice chairman of the board of directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which will open in Los Angeles next April.
