Under the slogan, "Safety is the first principle of management," Samsung C&T's construction division, led by CEO Lee Young-ho, is carrying out the campaign for the safety of employees, workers and customers.

In particular, Samsung C&T is proactively supporting and checking high-risk and vulnerable construction sites by establishing its own safety and health system (OHSMS) that meets global standards.

Thanks to such efforts, the company's safety management capabilities have been highly recognized overseas. Recently, Samsung C&T's construction sites swept six awards at the 2020 Annual Safety Award Convention organized by Singapore's Land and Transportation Authority.

"We need to prevent new safety risks that have not occurred before as construction projects become larger and more complex," an official of Samsung C&T said.

He added, "We are trying to automate construction and upgrade on-site safety management with advanced digital technologies such as utilizing big data, applying AI technology, and converging information and communication technologies."

With IoT and AI-based real-time monitoring system, the company immediately checks underground structures and enclosed space hazards and shares information, and also implements smart safety management using intelligent CCTVs, smart tags, and drones.

At Samsung C&T, a quality safety management meeting is held every month, attended by top executives such as CEO and business managers. In addition, a 'Safety Talk' is held before all official meetings to talk about safety and share thoughts.

In addition, 'Safety Academy' was established in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do to provide safety education every year for all executives and employees, as well as safety managers of partner companies.

It is an educational facility with experience facilities, video experience center, and safety facilities to effectively cope with possible fires, falls, and earthquakes. Last year, 2,800 employees and 650 workers of partner companies completed education here.

This year, it was switched to non-face-to-face safety education due to COVID-19. It established a broadcasting studio to provide live education that enables mutual communication. By developing E-Learning safety education in the form of a game, it has also created interest and increased immersion among students.
