Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Nov. 17 that it has won an order for three S-Max class crude carriers worth a total of 194.6 billion won ($175 million) from a shipping company in Oceania. Ships will be delivered sequentially by January 2023.
The contract includes two options, which is expected to win additional orders in the future. S-Max, Suez Canal Maximum, means the maximum linear form that can pass through the Suez Canal with cargo fully loaded, and is 1.25 million to 200,000 tons in size.
The oil carriers are suitable for eco-friendly regulations by installing SCR (Nitrogen Oxide Reduction System) and BWTS (Ballast Water Treatment System), and increased efficiency of operation by applying a large number of fuel saving devices such as linear and propellant optimized for the shipping company's operating conditions.
In particular, they are equipped with the next-generation smartship solution "SVESSEL" developed by Samsung Heavy Industries to support the economical and safe operation of ships.
Meanwhile, Samsung Heavy Industries has continued to secure leadership in the market with differentiated quality competitiveness, winning 12 out of 26 S-Max crude carriers.
"We will continue to expand our market share in medium and large crude carriers with the world`s best eco-friendly and smart-ship technology," a company official said.
