Woori Bank announced on Dec. 3 that it has been honored as the "Global Bank of the Year" by The Banker, a global financial magazine, for the first time in the nation’s banking industry. It also won three awards, including the Best Asian Bank and the Best Korean Bank.
The Banker is a monthly financial magazine of the British Financial Times that annually selects one best bank by global, regional and country through a rigorous screening process.
In particular, it was reported that The Banker praised the timely financial support and various social contribution activities of Woori Bank to overcome COVID-19 this year, and the strengthening of the digital sector through partnerships with heterogeneous industries in preparation for post-COVID-19.
"Although we have been selected as the best bank in Korea for three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018, it is the first time for a domestic bank to be selected as the global best bank. This year's award has a special meaning of COVID-19 response, so we will take the lead in implementing 'solid finance' together," a bank official said.
