Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Dec. 15 with OW Offshore, a Spanish marine wind power company, and Kumyang Industrial Development, a new & renewable energy company in Ulsan for the Ulsan floating-type offshore wind power generation complex creation project.
It is a project in which OW Offshore develops 1.5GW floating offshore wind power in three 500MW complexes in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) about 72km off Ulsan, the largest floating offshore wind power in the world.
OW Offshore is currently installing a weather gauge and reviewing business feasibility, and through an agreement, the companies agreed to cooperate closely to successfully carry out the project.
Currently, global offshore wind power companies, including OW Offshore, are seeking to develop a floating offshore wind power generation complex in Ulsan.
The government is currently working on developing the system with the aim of developing 4.6GW floating offshore wind power in the southeastern region from 2026, so the domestic wind industry is expected to be reorganized.
Lee In-shik, head of the KHNP green energy headquarters, said, “The nation's East Sea coast is the best location for floating offshore wind power, so we must prepare for the future. I hope that KHNP, OW Offshore and Kumyang Industrial Development will jointly push for the world’s largest floating offshore wind power estate development project.”
