uLikeKorea, led by CEO Kim Hee-jin, a smart livestock management company, and Seoul National University’s Farm Animal Clinical Research and Training Center (FACTRC), led by Prof. Lee In-hyung, announced on Dec. 22 that their joint paper titled “Evaluation of the rumen motility using 3-axis accelerometer indwelled in the reticulum in cattle” was published in a SCI-class journal issued by JSVS (Japanese Society of Veterinary Science).

This is a culmination of collaborative efforts by both SNU and uLikeKorea. The research was led by Professor Dan Il Kim’s team, supported by uLikeKorea’s research team and the project was conducted at SNU’s Pyeongchang campus where the issue of “early disease detection and farm productivity improvement through objective evaluation of rumen motility”

Rumen motility is a critical factor in determining the health status of rumen animals such as cows, deer, camels, etc. and it was typically monitored through the usage of stethoscope.

In this joint research project, uLikeKorea’s Livecare Bio-capsule was administered to Holstein cows and the rumen motility was monitored remotely. The Livecare Bio-capsule measured the various biometric data from the rumen stomach and through the usage of rumen activity suppressant, the difference was observed.

According to the publication, rumen motility can reveal a wealth of information about cattle suffering from diseases; for example, a reduction in rumen activity can indicate possible metabolic illnesses often seen in dairy cows after giving birth. If rumen motility can be remotely monitored, it can help in early detection of diseases which in turn improves the overall farm productivity.

CEO Kim Hee-jin of uLikeKorea, stated, “After we published the paper in a globally recognized veterinary organization like JSCS, we received a number of inquiries from Japan and other global markets. Livecare enables users to detect rumen motility reduction that allows them to detect diseases in their early stage and have veterinary experts to take immediate actions.”

Kim also said, “Starting next year, we plan to actively engage in B2B discussions with Japanese companies to enter this market. Our plan is to market the Livecare capsule that has been proven and differentiated among other products in improving livestock health management. We plan to use our Tokyo office as a base to discuss with Japanese vaccine and feed manufacturing companies to take the lead in the Japanese livestock market.”

uLikeKorea currently operates Livecare AI Data Center where they focus on livestock health management through biometric data analysis. uLikeKorea is also the only company that has over 500 million livestock biometric data points and continues to develop products which enable early stage identification of various livestock diseases such as diarrhea, FMD, indigestion, blood poisoning, ketosis and mastitis.
