Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Dec. 21 that it has won an order for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers worth a total of 408.2 billion won ($378 million) from a shipping company in Oceania. The ships will be delivered sequentially by February 2024, when the contract takes effect.
Samsung Heavy Industries' latest order is equipped with a re-liquid system in its Mark-Ⅲ Flex-type cargo window, minimizing cargo losses, and Samsung Heavy Industries' smart-ship solution "SVESSEL" will support the ship's economical and safe operation.
Samsung Heavy Industries is increasing its ship orders by showing a competitive advantage in the LNG carrier market, where orders resumed in the second half of this year.
In particular, the accumulated orders increased from $1.1 billion at the end of October to $4.4 billion at present, thanks to the company's winning of a total of 13 LNG carriers from November, including the contract.
An official of Samsung Heavy Industries said, "We will continue to maintain our superior market status based on our experience in building more than 120 LNG carriers and unique eco-friendly and smart-ship technologies."
