Hanwha Systems made an announcement on Dec. 24 that it has signed a final contract with the Agency for Defense Development to develop the "CMS and Multi-function Radar (MFR)" of the KDDX, which is worth 540 billion won.
Starting with this contract, Hanwha Systems will develop KDDX's core equipment, the combat system, and multi-function radar, in earnest by 2029 and apply them to a total of six KDDXs in the future.
The KDDX is the first domestic destroyer to be built with pure domestic technology, including core weapons systems such as the hull, combat system, and multi-function radar. It is called a 6,000-ton mini-Aegis ship, and its total business is worth 7.8 trillion won.
The combat system to be equipped with KDDX is applied with state-of-the-art IT technology that can conduct ship command and armament control under multiple combat situations such as anti-aircraft, anti-ship, electronic, and large-scale warfare.
Hanwha Systems is the only company in Korea that has the capability to develop ship combat systems, improve performance, and follow-up military support infrastructure.
For nearly 40 years, it has been supplying combat systems to about 80 naval vessels, submarines, and other ships of the South Korean Navy.
Last year, it exported 30 billion won worth of naval vessels to the Philippines. Recently, it successfully released the Korean fighter jet (KF-X) AESA radar prototype, proving its unrivaled competitiveness in both the combat system and the radar sector.
