Hyosung T&C has decided to supply Regen®jeju, an eco-friendly fiber, to the global outdoor brand The North Face.
Hyosung T&C signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Jeju Samdasoo (Jeju Development Corporation) and The North Face (Youngone Outdoor) on Jan. 19 to promote eco-friendly project "Return to Be Born Again."
North Face's eco-friendly products made by Regen Jeju will be released in various products such as jackets and T-shirts by the end of this year. About 100 tons of transparent pet bottles are recycled to produce these products.
“Return to Be Born Again” is an eco-friendly project that Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has been working with Jeju Samdasoo (Jeju Development Corporation) and Hyosung T&C since last year as part of the establishment of Jeju Resource Circulation System.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Jeju Samdasoo collect transparent pet bottles abandoned in Jeju City, and Hyosung T&C produces eco-friendly fiber Regen Jeju by making them recyclable. North Face is going to release products such as clothes using Regen Jeju.
Recently, Hyosung's eco-friendly fiber regen® has been growing more than 20% compared to last year.
Hyosung T&C has set eco-friendly as its top management goal since the early 2000s and continued to develop recycled fiber, developing polyester resins extracted from Korea's first pet bottle in 2008.
In particular, last year, it signed a business agreement with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province to establish a system to recycle domestic pet bottles.
Hyosung Chairman Cho Hyun-joon said, "In order to solve environmental problems such as climate change, companies should be actively interested in environmental issues. We will continue to take responsibility and lead related industries such as developing various eco-friendly products."
