LG Electronics and LG Energy Solutions are speeding up their energy storage system (ESS) businesses.
LG Electronics announced on Feb. 7 that it has recently completed the establishment of the largest ESS in Korea at the Special Purpose Corporation (SPC) created by KCH Group, Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), and Top Solar Group, and the Anjwa Smart Farm & Solar City in Sinan, Jeollanam-do.
This ESS has 92 megawatts (MW) capacity and 340 megawatts (MWh) battery capacity, and 29,000 households in Korea can use electricity every day through it considering that the average monthly power consumption of four-person households in Korea is 350 kilowatts (kWh).
Based on ESS's core technologies such as Power Conditioning System (PCS), Power Management System (PMS), and batteries, LG Electronics is providing ESS total solutions that are not only about products but also about design and construction.
This ESS is equipped with batteries from LG Energy Solution. LG Electronics is going to guarantee all ESS components including batteries for three years free.
LG Electronics has designed ESS to maintain stable indoor temperature and performance by completely separating PCS, batteries, and incoming panels. Also it can respond quickly to unusual occurrences through 24-hour monitoring and remote control.
Fire prevention system is also applied. Even if the battery is on fire, the smoke detector detects whether it is a fire and injects water directly into the battery module to block the spread.
LG Electronics has established ESS for adjusting the frequency of Korea Electric Power Corporation's Shingyeryong substation, ESS for reducing peak at Changwon plant of Korea Steel, ESS for reducing peak at Dangjin plant of Hwanyoung Steel Ind., and ESS for new and renewable linked Gyeongju Wind Power.
Ahn Hyuk-sung, managing director of ESS business, said, "We will provide the best service to our customers with ESS total solutions armed with industry's best performance, convenience, and safety and reliable follow-up management."
