SK Telecom made an announcement on Feb. 24 that it has been listed as one of the top 100 global innovation companies selected by Clarivate Analytics, a global patent solution company.
Clarivate is a global company that provides a variety of patent databases and analysis solutions, and since 2012, it has announced the top 100 global innovators every year through four indicators: number of patent registrations, influence, registration rates, and global marketability.
SKT's selection as Clarivate's "Global Top 100 Innovators" is considered to be recognized for its global leadership in patent and technology development, including mobile telecommunications and 5G•AI•media•security.
The Global Top 100 Innovative Companies" selected by Clarivate in 2021 were produced in 12 countries, including the U.S. (42) and Japan (29), and major selected companies include Apple, Qualcomm, and AT&T.
A total of five South Korean companies, including SKT, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, LS Electric, and KAIST, were selected. In particular, SKT was newly selected as a South Korean company in six years.
SKT continues to develop technologies based on 5G•AI•Media•Security, as well as patents based on mobile communication systems such as Access and Core.
A total of 2,638 patents have been registered over the past five years, which is the standard for selecting the "Global Top 100 Innovative Companies."
In addition, SKT has generated more than 30 billion won in royalty revenue over the past five years through active standard patent management activities.
"SK Telecom will continue to build a strong patent portfolio for growth technology and contribute to the development of national intellectual property by strengthening win-win cooperation such as opening patents to small and medium-sized enterprises," said Yoon Poong-young, head of the SKT Corp1 Center.
