S-OIL announced on March 2 that it has delivered 70 million won in donations to Women Migrants Human Rights Center of Korea to help migrant women affected by domestic violence ahead of World Women's Day, which falls on March 8.
The center was established in 2001 and is a non-profit private organization that conducts counseling, education, and psychotherapy activities for migrant women living in Korea. It operates a shelter where migrant women and their children stay.
The donations provided by S-Oil will be used to support migrant women who leave the shelter to stand on their own feet and to support migrant women-turned-translation professional counseling activists who help migrant women get legal counseling and return to society.
The donation will also be used to support daily necessities when migrant women who are victims of domestic violence leave the shelter of the Korean Women's Human Rights Center.
S-Oil explained that it has donated a total of 450 million won since 2013, when social interest and support for migrant women's rights were poor.
An official of S-Oil said, "We will be a strong supporter to create an environment where migrant women's culture and values are respected and live as members of the community."
