KEPCO holds a vision declaration ceremony for Gangso R&D Special Zone in Naju

KEPCO held a vision declaration ceremony for the Gangso R&D Special Zone in Naju, Jeollanam-do, at Hanbit Hall of KEPCO's headquarters on March 11.

The Gangso Special Zone Vision Declaration Ceremony was held to provide a venue for mutual cooperation and exchanges between related agencies for the spread of R&D performance and technology commercialization in Gangso Special Zone, Jeollanam-do Province.

About 90 officials from the central government, local governments and related organizations, including Science and ICT Minister Choi Ki-young, KEPCO CEO Kim Jong-gap, Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-rok, and Naju City Mayor Kang In-kyu, attended the vision declaration ceremony.
 
Starting with KEPCO CEO Kim Jong-gap's welcoming speech, Kim Sook-chul, head of KEPCO's Technology Innovation Division, announced the vision and strategy of the Gangso Special Zone and delivered the nameplate of the new research institute.

The Ministry of Science and ICT designated five special R&D zones in the country to create new technologies and promote technology commercialization through R&D in 2005, and six areas including Naju in 2020 were designated as Gangso special zones in 2019.

The Gangso Special District in Naju, Jeollanam-do, has been designated as a part of the Bitgaram Innovation City and Naju Innovation Industrial Complex, and KEPCO Engineering University's cluster site will also be expanded to the Gangso Special District site.

Specialized fields include intelligent solar energy, renewable O&M, and energy storage, and KEPCO is a key technology institution.

This project will consist of linking technology discovery, fostering technology start-ups, and supporting specialized growth in the Gangso Special Zone, and 35 billion won will be spent for the project over five years.
 
Research center companies that move into Gangso Special District will be exempted from corporate tax for three years and will be reduced by 50% over the next two years. Property taxes are exempted in full for up to seven years, 50% is reduced for the next three years, and acquisition taxes are exempted in full.

KEPCO CEO Kim Jong-gap said in a welcoming speech, "We will do our best to lead the development of the national energy industry and lead the digital transformation through close exchanges with the Energy New Technology Institute, which will be completed at the end of the year."
