Orion announced on March 18 that it will establish an "integrated global carbon emission management system" and strengthen eco-friendly management activities at the group level.

Headquarters of Orion

In addition to seven plants in Korea, the group is working with 11 overseas subsidiaries in China, Vietnam, Russia, and India to manage carbon emissions.

To this end, Orion established the Green Task Force Team, which consists of working-level officials from six departments, including production, facilities and management.

Green TFT establishes and implements carbon emission targets, integrates and manages data, and reduces energy through enterprise-wide collaboration.

It will not be limited to the manufacturing process in the factory, but will be applied to the entire process from before the birth to after the production, such as product development/production/sales/ disposal of subsidiary materials.

Orion has been continuing its eco-friendly management by improving production facilities and investing in each corporation.

In Korea, the Cheongju Plant Quality Division achieved a 5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by improving "Kobuk Chip Energy Saving Steam Supply Device" and "Fryer Oil Cooling Heat Exchanger" and won the Presidential Gold Award at the 46th National Quality Division Competition.

Its Iksan plant reduced annual carbon emissions by 218 tons by replacing low-efficiency refrigerators with high-efficiency ones.

Its Chinese corporation is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 1,000 tons annually by establishing facilities to recover and recycle waste heat emitted from swing chip fryers and factory boilers at the Langbang plant.

Shanghai plant also expects to reduce waste by 795 tons annually by introducing additional wastewater sediment construction facilities.

In addition, it is continuing various activities for 'green production'. Since 2014, Orion has staged the “Good Packaging Project’ and has reduced the packaging specifications of a total of 22 brands.

In 2017, it has developed and applied environmentally friendly packaging materials that do not use volatile organic compounds that are harmful to the human body.

In 2018, a total of 12 products, including "Choco Pie" and "Poca Chip," received a green certification from the Ministry of Environment for the first time in the confectionery industry.

At the same time, it invested about 12 billion won to introduce Flexo printing facilities and began production of environmentally friendly packaging materials in March 2020, reducing annual ink use by 50 percent.

An Orion official said, "We have established a system that can carry out the eco-friendly management activities we have undertaken in more depth through the establishment of an integrated global carbon emission management system."
