Hyundai Motor's Genesis GV80 has been selected as the "Top Safety Pick Plus" by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) that gives the safest vehicle in the crash evaluation. This is the first crash evaluation report that the GV80 has received since it entered the U.S. market.
IIHS is a non-profit organization founded in 1959 that comprehensively evaluates the crash safety performance and crash prevention performance of hundreds of vehicles released each year. Among them, top safety-pick plus ratings are given to vehicles with the highest safety.
In order to be recognized as a top safety plus vehicle, the GV80 must receive the highest grade "excellent" evaluation in six safety items set by the U.S. IIHS, including front-side collision and head support safety.
The six safety items are included driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side collision, roof strength and head restraint.
The GV80 also received higher and better grades in front-end collision prevention system tests and headlamp assessments for vehicles and pedestrians, respectively.
Earlier, among Genesis models, the G70 Sports sedan and the G90 Flagship sedan received top safety pick plus ratings.
"Customers are the center of Genesis," a Genesis official said. "Safety is an uncompromising top priority for Genesis and we will continue to do our best to ensure the safety of our customers."
Meahwhile, the Genesis GV80 drew attention last month after golf star Tiger Woods reportedly caused a major rollover accident on a downhill road in Los Angeles County, California and he suffered only a fracture even after the accident.
