Now Four students from the New York University unveiled their own social networking site. They say the difference between Facebook and their site, called Diaspora if that they designed their service with protecting a users privacy in mind. They claim to help the user be "Privacy-aware, personally-controlled" while social networking.
The team released their source code in a blog saying, "This is now a community project and development is open to anyone with the technical expertise who shares the vision of a social network that puts users in control,"
The features of Diaspora will be similar to existing social networks such as Facebook, which allows users to share messages, photos and status updates. The key difference is Diaspora has implemented strong privacy controls from the beginning, learning from Facebook's mistake. Users of Diaspora can take control of their personal data with ease.
Diaspora will launch their first product in October, and I wonder how Facebook will response for that.
