Hanwha Engineering & Construction (Hanwha E&C) has vowed to take advantage of its eco-friendly business as a future growth engine and leap forward as a "green developer."
To this end, the company plans to strengthen its capabilities beyond simple construction company in environmental projects such as wind power generation and water treatment to become a top-tier development company in Korea.
Hanwha E&C has strengthened its competitiveness by establishing a new wind power business office under the CEO and hiring more professional workers at the end of last year to expand the wind power project that has been promoted since 2013.
Long-term investment is essential for wind power projects as they require a lot of time from location selection and weather survey to actual construction.
Hanwha E&C completed 76MW Youngyang wind power generation complex and 25MW Jeju Sumang wind power plant last year. It is also speeding up its development of projects to create a total of 100MW wind power generation farms in Yeongcheon and Yeongwol, including the 90MW Yangyang Suri wind farms.
Hanwha E&C is expanding its business area not only by land but also by sea. It is in charge of the development of the Shinan Wui offshore wind power project (400MW level), which will cost more than 2 trillion won ($1.8 billion) in total project costs, and has launched a weather survey to develop a number of new offshore wind power plants.
Offshore wind power is a key business area of the Korean version of the Green New Deal policy, and its share in the global renewable energy market is gradually expanding.
Hanwha E&C will lay the groundwork for the development of water treatment sales, which have strengths. Hanwha E&C ranked first in the sewage treatment plant and sewage system construction performance evaluation of general construction companies announced in 2020.
"We have grown into a global developer by carrying out numerous projects, including construction, housing, civil engineering, plant and new town projects at home and abroad," said Choi Kwang-ho, CEO of Hanwha Engineering & Construction.
