LG Chem received Korea's first eco-friendly international certification for nine types of products used in diapers, IT, home appliances and automotive materials.
LG Chem announced on April 19 that it has obtained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus certification for Bio-balanced products that were made from renewable plant materials such as waste oil and palm oil.
ISCC Plus certification is an international certification system consistent with the world's most stringent Renewable Energy Directives (EU) and is a representative means of proving the sustainability of eco-friendly bio products.
The ISCC has more than 130 eco-friendly raw material manufacturers, NGOs, and research institutes from around the world as members, and is the most reliable institution in the field of eco-friendly certification with transparent screening standards and demanding certification procedures.
LG Chem has received ISCC Plus certification for nine bio-balancing products, including SAP (high absorbent resin), PO (polyolefin), and PC (polycarbonate) compound, which are the first in Korea.
It also obtained ISCC Plus certification for the first time in Korea for the entire Value Chain from raw materials to production, purchase and sale of related products.
This certification will pave the way for LG Chem to increase customer confidence in eco-friendly bio products and accelerate its efforts to target related markets.
LG Chem will start producing eco-friendly products using Neste's bio raw materials at its Yeosu and Iksan plants in June.
"We have secured the foundation to dominate the eco-friendly bio-product market through ISCC Plus certification, which is the most prestigious in sustainability," said Noh Kuk-rae, head of LG Chem's petrochemical business division.
