Starting May 1, Korean Air will launch a "baggage-loading information service" that will inform passengers of the location of their baggage in real time through a smartphone app when they check in their luggage on all domestic and international routes.
As a result, customers using Korean Air will receive information services such as "Your baggage KE123456 has been loaded on flight KE1211 bound for Jeju" as soon as checked baggage is normally loaded on their aircraft.
The information service can be found in the "Notification" or "Luggage Inquiry" menu of Korean Air's mobile app "Korean Air My," and if you are a Skypass member, you will automatically receive the information service if you agree to “push” notifications in the app settings.
The service is based on the Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) developed by Korean Air, which compares and verifies barcode information made when passengers check baggage at the airport with scanning information when they board the aircraft.
Luggage operations personnel can fundamentally prevent missing luggage loading or accidental loading during the comparison and verification of this information.
Since the first introduction of the service on routes before departure from Incheon International Airport in June last year, Korean Air has expanded the service to cover overseas flights.
The provision of "luggage-loading information services" on all routes is expected to further improve passenger convenience and change the process of handling checked baggage at domestic and overseas small airports, which have relied on manual work.
