POSCO announced on May 10 that it has introduced an "AI-based material automatic ordering system" that automatically orders materials by predicting demand for materials and analyzing appropriate inventory using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Introduced on-site from May 4, the system can do efficient inventory management and minimize human error by allowing AI to predict material demand, calculate appropriate material inventory, and place purchase orders at the same time.
Previously, officials in charge of each department had purchased materials based on past performance by judging the volume and timing of orders.
As a result, the accuracy of material management varies depending on the proficiency of the material management official, and the person in charge frequently identifies inventory and places orders.
However, AI analyzes the pattern of use of materials, characteristics of goods, and safety stocks to calculate proper inventory.
In addition, it will automatically place purchase orders considering the frequency of use of materials and lead time so that it can keep proper inventory by checking inventory from time to time.
Lee Seung-ki, head of POSCO's facility material purchasing office, said, "We expect to reduce unnecessary purchases to reduce costs, minimize the risk of lack of material supply, and increase employees’ work efficiency."
