Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) Hanul 1st Power Plant receives the Top Innovative Practice (TIP) award from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI).
NEI said, "We have selected Hanul Plant 1's successful reactor head thermal sleeve replacement project as the TIP of the year."
Each year, NEI awards TIPs to member companies that have contributed to improving nuclear safety and improving work processes through innovative technologies and ideas. The awards ceremony will be held online at the annual NEI meeting on June 7.
During the preventive maintenance period last year, Hanul 1st Power Plant worked with FRAMATOME Inc to replace Hanul Units 1 and 2 reactor head Thermal Sleeve. In this process, KHNP greatly increased safety while reducing costs by applying innovative working methods that do not carry out welding and processing work.
"This project provided an opportunity to further improve the safety of Hanul Units 1 and 2 reactor facilities," said Chung Jae-hoon, president of KHNP. "We plan to share experiences with foreign nuclear power plant operators."
