Dong-A Pharmaceutical is speeding up its ESG(Environmental, social and corporate governance) management.

Dong-A Pharm is applying a design to promote the recycling of waste plastics to its Oral Care product "Garglin." It builds a plastic virtuous cycle that extends to production, consumption, recovery and recycling.

Earlier this year, Microsoft founder Bill Gates published a book titled "How to avoid a climate disaster." "If we don't get rid of carbon emissions in 30 years, the death rate will be five times higher than COVID-19," he warned, calling for practical changes in environmental protection.

The COVID-19 pendemic crisis, which has continued for more than a year, clearly depicts the connection between the environment, society and economy. This is why it is no longer awkward for Bill Gates to deliver a message for environmental protection.

"We have replaced all product plastic bottles with transparent plastic bottles since 2019, before the revision of the Resource Recycling Act," said Dong-A Pharm. "Colored plastic bottles contain impurities in the process of color, making it difficult to recycle. But transparent waste plastic bottles can be used secondaryly."

Dong-A Pharm applied the in-mold label to its recently renewed Oral Care product "Garglin." In-mold labels can be easily removed by reducing the use of adhesive chemicals. The label design is marked with a "cut" to make it easier for consumers to remove labels. It included a plan to raise awareness of environmental protection by putting nine species of endangered animals such as Asiatic black bears and eagle owls.

Some products used materials as renewable resources in the first place. Jordan GreenClean's package and label used Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified recycled paper. The toothbrush handle used recycled plastic approved by the FDA. Toothbrush head was used as a plant oil extract derived from Castor Oil.

"Most waste plastics buried in the ground take more than 500 years to decompose, and even if they decompose, they remain in the form of microplastics and make nature sick,"  said Kang Joo-yeop, a brand manager at Dong-A Pharm. "We will practice fundamental alternatives with 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in mind for the Earth."
