According to Hyundai Motor, a month after Hyundai Motor's Staria was released, the Staria Tourer model showed the problem of breaking the "panoramic window" by impact when you close the rear sliding door.
Panoramic windows are large windows that take up about half the size of the sides and rear of vehicles applied to Staria. For this reason, Staria even adopted the modifier "spacecraft".
It is known that about 2,000 car windows were broken among Staria released on April 15.
"Staria looks like Starex," said an industry official. "Although it has almost the same structure as Starex, the problem seems to have occurred due to the excessive size of the window."
"As soon as we recognized the problem, we provided guidance to customers who own the vehicle," said Hyundai Motor. "we plan to visit the customers soon to replace windows."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor announced the direction of its new mobility business when it launched Staria last month.
"Many car makers, including ViaVan in Europe, Kakao TV Venti and Volkswagen's Moia, are expanding their services to provide multi-seater mobility in a wide space," said Hyundai Motor Vice President Yoo Won-ha. "The Staria will play the same role as a multi-purpose vehicle."
Hyundai Motor has also joined hands with Kakao Mobility to plan to use Staria as Kakao TV Venti, a large-scale taxi service for Kakao Mobility.
Kakao TV Venti is a luxury taxi that uses minivans such as Starex, and Hyundai Motor expects to expand the utilization of future vehicles such as business, camping, and golf beyond the purpose of passenger transportation through Starex.
Hyundai Motor has set a goal of selling 38,000 Staria units in Korea this year and 55,000 units a year after next year. It is also planning to release hydrogen-electric vehicles in 2023.
