LG Display is going to accelerate its entry into mobility display markets by using transparent OLEDs.
LG Display announced that it will introduce transparent OLED panels for trains by participating in "Korea Railways & Logistics Fair 2021" that will be held at BEXCO in Busan from June 16th to June 19.
"Korea Railways & Logistics Fair 2021" is the only railway-related professional exhibition in Korea involving more than 100 global railway-related companies.
LG Display's 55-inch transparent OLED panel with 40% transparency is a railway-specific product that can replace room windows. It is characterized by its strong impact and vibration compared to conventional panels by applying special tempered glass to suit trains running on tracks at high speeds.
If transparent OLED is applied, it can provide passengers information such as operation information, advertisements, and entertainment contents while looking at external scenery. It is expected to be highly used not only for subways and high-speed trains but also for tourist trains.
Since last year, LG Display has supplied transparent OLED panels to subways in Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shenzhen, and Fuzhou. It is also planning to expand its business to markets such as Asia, Europe, and North America.
Transparent OLED light up pixels themselves without backlight, so transparency is high, thin, and light, enabling various designs to be implemented. LG Display is the only company that can mass-produce large transparent OLEDs.
"We will continue to provide solutions that can maximize value of space through form factor innovation that only OLED can implement." said Oh Chang-ho, vice president of TV business at LG Display.
