LG Energy Solution has completed supplying its batteries to the world's largest energy storage system (ESS) project.
LG Energy Solution announced on June 17 that it has completed supplying batteries to 1.2 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of power grid ESS facility, which is being operated by Vistra.
Vistra, a U.S. power company, operates a ESS facility in Moss Landing in northeastern Monterey County, California. It is the world's largest by a single ESS facility, with capacity available to about 225,000 households during peak times when power consumption is high in California, the U.S.
A new ESS battery that LG Energy Solution supplied for this project is "TR 1300" Rack. Previously, it shipped battery packs and racks separately and assembled them at the facility. But this time, the battery manufacturing plant installed and assembled the battery pack into the battery rack and shipped it to the ESS facility, reducing the time and cost of installing the ESS.
In addition, the "TR1300" with high-performance battery cells (Cells) enables double-stacked battery racks, increasing space efficiency and improving energy density.
"By supplying batteries to the world's largest ESS project, LG Energy Solution's ESS battery has been recognized in the U.S. for its competitiveness in ESS batteries," said Shin Young-joon, executive director of ESS business at LG Energy Solution. "We are going to lead global ESS markets by further strengthening the technologies."
Meanwhile, the U.S. ESS market is expected to grow rapidly, with the Biden administration announcing its goal of converting all energy in the U.S. into 100% clean energy by 2050 by expanding renewable energy.
