Samsung C&T's construction division announced on June 24 that it has acquired "ISO 19650," the international standard for Building Information Modeling (BIM), for the first time in the Korean construction industry.
BIM international standard (ISO 19650) was established by the British Standards Institution (BSI), a founding member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and was officially issued as an international standard in August 2018.
ISO 19650 needs to pass rigorous screening in 26 areas including information requirements in BIM and project cases. So far, only about 150 institutions and companies around the world have obtained the certification.
In particular, there are many cases of certification, mostly in Europe and the Middle East, so it is more valuable in the Asia-Pacific region.
Since Samsung C&T launched its BIM team in 2010, it has been expanding its investment to strengthen BIM capabilities by standardizing BIM business guidelines and unifying processes that were scattered around each product and industry.
Through this certification, it will be officially recognized internationally for its global BIM information management capabilities, standardized technology and quality, and professional technical personnel capabilities throughout the project from bidding, design, and construction.
