As part of a 28GHz pilot project pushed by the Ministry of Science and ICT, SK Telecom will introduce a 5G 28GHz pilot service at the COEX lobby event hall in Samseong-dong from July 5 to July 11.
The exhibition is one of the 28GHz 5G pilot projects conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology and three telecommunications carriers in 10 locations across the country to vitalize 5G.
The exhibition will also feature future services related to "Metaverse," which is receiving much attention in Korea and abroad.
SKT is going to introduce variety of services that provide surreal experiences such as virtual conferences using Metaverse technology and real-time high-definition live broadcasting services. Visitors can also enjoy "Crazy World VR" games after wearing VR devices.
SKT is also going to display "AI quarantine robot" that has 28GHz modem inside of its body. The "AI quarantine robot" moves around on its own and identifies a person's face to measure body temperature and check whether he or she is wearing a mask. It also analyzes people's density and guides social distancing by voice and provides hand sanitizer.
SKT provides 28GHz-based WiFi service within COEX exhibition hall, which is about 36,000 square meters, so anyone can freely use WiFi service if they visit the exhibition hall.
Starting with COEX, SKT plans to carry out a 28GHz pilot project at Jamsil Baseball Stadium and Jeju World Cup Stadium in August.
"We prepared for visitors to safely experience ICT technologies that represent the 5G era, such as AI quarantine robots and Metaverse," said SK Telecom. "We are going to discover 28GHz B2B-type services and introduce innovative technologies, which lead the 5G era."
