SK Telecom, South Korea's largest wireless carrier, introduced a new metaverse platform that will represent the social networking service (SNS) in 5G era including such as the metaverse campus and the Metaverse K-Pop hall.
SK Telecom made an announcement on July 14 that it has launched metaverse platform called ifland, which will maximize users' metaverse experiences through virtual spaces and their avatars.
The ifland was released based on Android OS and is planning to gradually expand its services to iOS and VR devices. The ifland app can be downloaded from one store or Play Store.
The ifland means a lot of possibilities (if) like the things you want to do, people you want to meet, and places you want to go with adding a meaning that there are spaces (land) where your possibilities become reality.
Once you run the ifland app, your avatar and profile appear at the top of the screen immediately to check your current status. At the bottom, the currently opened metaverse rooms are listed. You can search open rooms by interested area. The app also tells you that a friend you follow has logged on to the ifland.
The ifland has also upgraded avatar types and emotional expression actions so that younger generations who are familiar with Metaverse can express their individuality in a variety of ways.
Users can create their own unique virtual characters through their gender and hairstyle as well as their height, body type, and 800 kinds of costumes.
The ifland has also enhanced social functions to enable new networking formation in the metaverse space. The social functions are expected to become a new SNS culture by creating another life-style in the metaverse space.
SKT has set up a virtual space with 18 themes that can be freely selected according to users' needs, such as large conference halls, outdoor stages, rooftops, and school playgrounds in the ifland. Spaces with various themes will continue to be updated in the future.
