LG Uplus, a mobile carrier in South Korea, announced on July 21 that LG Uplus and Hitron Systems consortium will build smart stations in all stations of Seoul Metro Subway line 8 by the first half of next year.
The smart stations are businesses that upgrade monitoring systems that used to be operated in subway history to intelligent CCTV and 3D maps.
Through the smart stations, the station staff can quickly identify and respond to the movement and accident status of passengers in the station and greatly increase the efficiency of the operation of the station.
LG Uplus consortium will install "Digital Twin" that reproduces the stations in virtual space and intelligent CCTVs that removes blind spots in subways. It will also install a three-dimensional millimeter wave radar that can detect passengers who have fallen within the station.
Intelligent CCTV also provides safer and more convenient subway services by utilizing various information such as fall analysis on escalators and service for disabled people through deep learning-based video analysis.
"LG Uplus was recognized for its technology in the project to build smart stations on Seoul Metro subway lines 1 through 4," said Choi Taek-jin, vice president of LG Uplus. "LG Uplus will make the subway safe and convenient by successfully completing the smart station project for subway line 8."
