Hanwha Group celebrated its 69th anniversary on October 9.

There was no official foundation commemorative event due to the severe COVID-19 quarantine situation. Each affiliate will hold a foundation commemorative event such as rewarding long-term employees on October 12, when the holidays are over, with a minimum number of people attending each division or team.

On the morning of October 12, in the commemorative speech for the group's 69th anniversary, which was released through the company's broadcast on the morning of October 12, Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-yeon diagnosed the current situation as a world where crises have become commonplace, "a vortex of great transformation has come to us again."

Nevertheless, Chairman Kim emphasized that Hanwha has the DNA of turning a crisis into an opportunity. He encouraged the executives and employees to “start the heart-pounding challenge toward a new world with hope rather than fear through thorough preparation.”

In his commemorative speech, Chairman Kim said, “To move toward a more advanced future, a different level of thinking and behavior is needed.”

He presented business structure innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable management as topics to lead a new paradigm.

Hanwha chose the space industry, which is called the last remaining blue ocean of mankind, as a future growth engine. In addition to its existing capabilities such as launch vehicles, engines and satellites, it has been continuously expanding its business through R&D and M&A.

Hanwha Aerospace also produces and supplies engines for the Korean launch vehicle Nuri, which will be held on October 21st.

The hydrogen energy business is also leading the transition to carbon neutrality by accelerating the establishment of the value chain.

Hanwha is also active in expanding digital solutions and new businesses that will lead the future of finance. Hanwha Life is leading the change in the industry and has been using artificial intelligence for insurance review from an early age.

Chairman Kim ordered the digital transformation to speed up further. He cited corporate flexibility as a key factor in responding to crises such as the COVID-19, emphasizing that digital transformation is essential for this.

In fact, major Hanwha affiliates are actively promoting digital transformation from the work environment by introducing Robot Process Automation (RPA) to automate repetitive tasks, share tasks, and build smart work systems.

By business area, the company is rushing to digital innovation using AI and big data in all areas of management, such as digital-based process improvement and operation optimization, and expansion of non-face-to-face digital services.

Chairman Kim urged the ESG committee of the group and major affiliates, which was launched in the first half of the year, to play an active role.

In January, Hanwha Group's financial affiliates declared coal-free finance for the era of zero carbon, and Hanwha Corporation and Hanwha Solutions started issuing ESG bonds to invest in eco-friendly energy businesses. Hanwha Q Cells declared RE100 for the first time among Korean renewable energy companies in February.
