Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) signed an MOU for technical cooperation with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) on October 14th to secure technologies for dry storage of spent nuclear fuel and decommissioning of nuclear power plants
CNL is Canada's best nuclear research institute with extensive experience in intermediate storage technology and nuclear dismantling of spent nuclear fuel. Through this MOU, it is planned to establish a cooperative system in the overall post-nuclear management field, such as ▲exchange of spent nuclear fuel dry and wet storage technology ▲exchange of experience and information on nuclear decommissioning ▲nurturing personnel in the field of post-nuclear management and technology exchange in the R&D field.
The cooperation between the two organizations is expected to expand the scope of cooperation in various fields, such as strengthening KHNP's capabilities in related fields, as well as developing the 'long-term storage demonstration test technology for spent nuclear fuel' that is being promoted as a government task.
The MOU was held in the Metaverse space, the first three-dimensional virtual world of KHNP. KHNP established a panoramic view and conference hall of KHNP's Gyeongju headquarters in the Metaverse space and signed an MOU by creating avatars of representatives and participants of the two organizations.
Chung Jaehoon, CEO of KHNP, said, “We expect that our technological cooperation with CNL will increase our competitiveness in the field of spent nuclear fuel and nuclear decommissioning." Chung continued, "KHNP will make more efforts to grow into a comprehensive energy company that leads the future global decommissioning market."
