Samsung Engineering, South Korea's construction and project management company, announced on November 23 that it has signed a contract with Saudi Arabia's state-run oil company Aramco for the design, procurement and construction (EPC) of the Jafurah gas treatment package 1 project.
The project develops the Shale Gas field in Jafurah, located 400 km east of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Samsung Engineering is in charge of constructing a gas treatment facility that produces high-purity gas by removing acid gases and impurities such as sulfur compounds from the gas mixture.
With this order, Samsung Engineering will participate in Saudi Arabia's first Shale Gas project. Through this, Saudi Arabia dreams of becoming the world's third-largest gas producer.
Based on its experience in Saudi Arabia, Samsung Engineering plans to actively respond to orders for gas-based petrochemical projects as well as investment in additional gas production facilities.
Meanwhile, since winning the first order in 2007, Samsung Engineering has built a relationship of trust by carrying out large projects for Aramco, the world's largest oil company.
