Shinhan Financial Group announced on November 25 that Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Cho Yong-byeong attended the first meeting of the "Leadership Council", the official partnership body of UNEP FI, on November 24.
The Leadership Council is the highest authority committee of UNEP FI, which was established after the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) to more actively carry out its role and responsibility for global finance on environmental issues.
On November 18, Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Cho was selected as the only member in Asia.
The first Council is a place for the presidents of global leading financial groups to share opinions on climate change response and sustainability across the financial industry.
The presidents also discussed the preparations for strengthening ESG disclosures recently promoted by the Climate Change-related Financial Disclosure Task Force (TCFD) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) of the IFRS Foundation and asset portfolio strategies for carbon-neutral finance.
“Shinhan Financial Group plans to set the key keyword for Shinhan’s carbon neutrality next year as ‘Transition Finance’ and actively support the construction of eco-friendly infrastructure and technology investment for Korean companies with high carbon emissions,” said Chairman Cho.
