Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on December 29 that it launched the KEPCO Carbon Neutrality Promotion Committee to discuss strategic directions and major policies for achieving carbon neutrality.
The KEPCO Carbon Neutrality Promotion Committee is the highest internal deliberation body for the promotion of carbon neutrality. The committee discusses strategic directions and major policies to realize carbon neutrality, which accounts for 37% of total domestic greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, the committee decided to discover the optimal path toward carbon neutrality through cooperation with internal and external experts and stakeholders.
The committee is chaired by President Chung Seung-il of KEPCO, and is composed of various talents, including former KEPCO executives, union representatives, young generation employees, and external experts.
In order to lead the decarbonization of the electric power business, the committee formed the "Electric Power Group Carbon Neutral Council" and decided to promote a carbon-neutral joint project.
At the same time, it decided to operate the "KEPCO Carbon Neutral Advisory Group" consisting of six external experts in each field, such as renewable energy and hydrogen, science and technology, energy policy, and global cooperation, to reflect an objective and professional perspective in the carbon neutrality implementation process.
In order to reflect the voices of the MZ generation who will lead the future carbon-neutral era, the "MZ Net-Zero Board" composed of 30 in-house MZ generation was also formed.
“Carbon neutrality is a challenging task that requires a major transformation in the overall economic and social system," said KEPCO President Jeong." Going forward, the committee will play a pivotal role in establishing a cooperative system with global utilities as well as the Korean electricity ecosystem by presenting strategies for achieving carbon neutrality and identifying core tasks.”
