Visitors gathering in front of the ETRI booth

ADR technology is breaking new grownd with their mobile TV terminal.

In their main research area, which includes digital cable and TV broadcasting, realistic broadcasting and 3D TV, and satellite wireless and radio signal technology, ETRI has succeeded in converting the existing RF analog system into an RF block digital system, which is closely related to the theme Green Growth, on which this 2010 Korea Electronics Show is focused.

By converting all signals that used to be analog from the beginning of signal processing into a digital system, it facilitates SOC advancement with a modem. ETRI proved that digital conversion consequently reduces the size of a chip, in comparison to analog system, and also the energy consumption.

Fitness system with avatar in virtual space

At this year's Korea Electronics Show, ETRI opened a new era in which users can experience avatar in real life, by combining the virtual space with fitness. Signals from the main server through a treadmill and monitor unite a user and avatar, and the user can actually feel the wind and heat generated within the avatar space. This system is a result of combining many different technologies based on a solid original technology, which makes it fit in another theme of this year's KES: convergence technology. One of the features in the system, the body information collector, gathers data on breathing, pulse, and heart rate of the user wearing the equipment.

OLED lighting

At this year's Korea Electronics Show, ETRI attracted attention from the visitors by integrating OLED lighting into Korea's traditional culture and modernism. OLED can, for its thin design, maximize the space; attached after the construction is completed; and, compared to LCDs with point light sources, it produces much less heat for it emits the light from a facet. Moreover, the power-saving being its core technology, OLED is a leading lighting system for Green Growth. Korea's traditional Horongbul and Chorongbul design drew visitors' attention, and on the other side of the booth, there was an exhibition of the lighting that won an award at the 2nd Lighting Design Competition' in modernist setting. One representative from the institute said that before OLED was known to the public, the industry focused only on the development, but now it is essential to take into account the design and visual appeal of the lighting in order to promote and expand the OLED market, and OLED will dominate indirect lighting sector within 2 to 3 years and direct lighting within 5 to 7 years from now.
