POSCO Group will begin construction of a solid electrolyte plant, a core material for all-solid-state batteries for electric vehicles, in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea to preoccupy the next-generation battery market.
In a commemorative speech, Yoo Byung-ok, head of the eco-friendly future materials team, said, “The eco-friendly car market is rapidly growing to respond to climate change around the world, and securing the stability of electric vehicles and improving mileage are emerging as key issues in the industry.”
“In order to preemptively respond to such market changes, POSCO Group is diversifying its portfolio of secondary battery materials business and strengthening its global competitiveness through continuous investment and technological innovation in next-generation battery materials while expanding its production capacity for positive and negative electrode materials. I will leave,” he said.
The all-solid-state battery is a next-generation battery, and the market is expected to grow in earnest from 2030.
Since it does not use highly flammable electrolytes, the risk of explosion is reduced, safety is greatly enhanced, and positive and negative electrode materials with high energy density can be used, which can dramatically increase the driving range of electric vehicles.
POSCO Group launched POSCO Holdings, a holding company, and declared that it would be reborn as a representative company of eco-friendly future materials.
The company announced that it would develop materials for all-solid-state batteries to preoccupy the next-generation battery material market along with expanding production capacity for positive and negative electrode materials by selecting the secondary battery material business as one of the seven core businesses.
