Park Seung-an, Executive Vice President Samsung SDS Technology Division

"Traditional IT Era is now over," continued Executive Vice President of Samsung SDS Technology Division, Park Seung-an, "an era is passing where technology itself is no longer plays a major role in the market.  With the end user and IT infrastructure on one side and the mobile computing and IT industry on the other side, how are we going to lead the trend That is the problem we face today, and the key here we concluded is IT convergence."

Samsung SDS has announced 'Samsung SDS 2011 IT Mega Trend' this month. It discusses about the upcoming IT future and the element that will replace the entire industry that determines the future economy, IT insight.  The IT Mega Trend is a general shift in IT trend that changes thinking or approach affecting countries, industries, and organizations.  Samsung SDS has been releasing the 'IT Mega Trend' since 2005. Park Seung-an of Samsung SDS discussed that the crux of the trends is the mobile phone, TV, and any other devices that could be the next 'smart.'  Samsung SDS provided outlook on smart phone, PC in your hand, and projected that smart phone frenzy will get serious starting next year, and that this year until now was only the beginning.

"Every television, phone, and the other devices will be unified in the future. That is the vision of Samsung. For example, the video you take with Samsung camera in Seoul can soon be seen through your laptop in America real-time. Apple and Google's strengths are different from us. Samsung Group all together can be a unified service provider with already existing and developing platform, computers, laptops, MP3s, digital cameras, set-up boxes, and so on. That is our differentiation," said Park Seung-an during the special interview at the site. Thus, the Mega Trend 2010 of Samsung SDS portrayed the effect that is shifting by the change of device.

Just this year, current smart phone users in Korea aggregate to about 4 million people.  These smart devices will expand the smart scale from mobile phones and PCs to TVs, automobiles, and even to refrigerators. These devices would be able to communicate with one another through automatic communication, also known as M2M communication.

For IT Infrastructural and environmental change, as smart phone user increase in a geometric progression, constantly exchanging and transmitting data between phones will result in data overflow in the near future. In order to ameliorate the data traffic from the data overflow, Mobile Cloud, which is capable of handling real-time overflowed data in a smooth manner, will act as the key to this problem solving.  The limited processing and memory capabilities of mobile devices have always required some use of the 'cloud' for delivery of mobile applications and services. In order to create more advanced application with location, presence, and other value-added services, the demand for the 'cloud' will dramatically increase.

Rapid changes are also being made in commercial transactions due to big leaps in sales through the smart phones.  The new type of business has arisen, the so-called social business which is a linkage of social network and various businesses. For example, linkage of social networks and commerce, games, and e-learning will produce new business model such as social commerce, social game, and social learning.

There will also be a change in organizational culture through the 'Open' revolution.  'One that is worth a hundred' era has subsided, and new era has emerged that requires various opinions and ideas from common people using blogs such as facebook and twitter. This open collaboration, in which people come together on equal footing, will be valued for their contributions and participations. This egalitarian and meritocratic will create mass influx of opinions and ideas, and pull participants into creating the event, brining their problems and expertise on the table.  With that said, 'Close' is the falling sun, and 'Open' is the rising sun.

In regards to software trend, Samsung SDS Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Seung-An Park  said, "Many OS (Operating Software) will become obsolete like MS-DOS, and applications with basis on web will become the new paradigm software.  The future awaits a new hybrid web era." To further the discussion on the hybrid web, the advent of HTML5 and similar web software integrated RIA (Rich Internet Application) platforms and became the new standard. Operating software with basis on the web, and web application stores have made 'web' and 'application' no different from one another.  This new HTML5 makes audio and media plug-ins or the duel plug-ins archaic. The complementary nature of App and Web will ultimately integrate the two systems into one.
