Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced today that it will participate in the 15th World Forestry Congress held at COEX, Seoul from May 2 to May 6.
The World Forestry Congress is the most influential international forestry event hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The event is held every six years and is chaired by Korea.
At this general assembly, about 10,000 people including government officials, international organizations, civic groups, and companies from 120 countries, including the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia, attended the largest-ever forestry product exhibition, science and technology session, and paper presentations.
At this general meeting, KAI exhibited Surion-affiliated forest helicopters, firefighting helicopters, police helicopters, coast guard helicopters, medical evacuation helicopters, vertical take-off and landing drones NI-500VT, and next-generation medium-sized satellite #4.
The KUH-1FS is equipped with a 2-ton water tank and a searchlight, making it the only forest helicopter capable of extinguishing forest fires at night in Korea.
KAI is also promoting the establishment of an air control system for forest helicopters, and plans to perform air control missions for pine wilt disease and foot-and-mouth disease in the future.
The firefighting helicopter KUH-1EM is active as a public safety keeper, such as transporting emergency patients and extinguishing fires, and the police helicopter KUH-1P and the Coast Guard helicopter KUH-1CG are also protecting people's lives and property through security missions such as search and rescue and crime control.
The NI-500VT, a vertical take-off and landing drone that KA is developing in-house, is an eco-friendly aircraft with a hybrid engine and is equipped with day and night precision image detection equipment, enabling various activities such as forest protection and reconnaissance in the future.
Next-generation medium-sized satellite No. 4 is a forest/agricultural satellite being developed under the supervision of KAI. It is equipped with an electro-optical (EO) camera to perform missions such as disaster monitoring in forested areas and monitoring of domestic and foreign farmland.
In addition to the exhibition hall, KAI also introduced a metaverse-based training system by operating an additional experience hall. The company presented a differentiated, future-oriented integrated solution such as training and maintenance, as well as simple helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicle operation.
“The Surion has proven its safety and performance through stable operation results," said KAI President Ahn Hyeon-ho. "We will pioneer the export market for helicopters to global customers.”
